Cupcakes...the new coffee cake

I just felt it was time for me to ask this question; is the cupcake the new coffee cake?

Everywhere I go these days it seems that the little smile in a cup, otherwise known as a cupcake, has invaded the coffee house scene. It wasn't long ago that my favorite cafes offered a full line of pastry and muffins to go along with my tall latte or coffee blacks.Today they have been replaced by crazy flavored cupcakes. Now I'm not saying that the cupcake is a bad thing, on the contrary, I follow a lot of bloggers and bakery owners that have gone into the cupcake business and totally appreciate the movement. In the end I can only conclude that the younger generation just doesn't eat or enjoy the more traditional coffee cake, muffin, or donuts, and so goes our old and in with the new.

Day in the Life of...

A 7am cruise down Ocean Drive with the top down, taking in the cool salty air blowing off the beach in Surfside, making my way toward my morning coffee. After grabbing a big hot cup I head over to one of my favorite cigar shops here in Myrtle Beach, and only place you can get a true hand rolled in this town. The owner John has created a place where cigar lovers can enjoy fine cigars but what he also created was long lasting friendships amongst a wide array of people.

East End Cigar Co.
7708 N Kings Hwy (US 17)
Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
Phone: 843.839.4499

This store has become a second home for local and visiting cigar smokers.

My favorites are the EAST END Robusto (50x5) and the Torpedo (52x6 ½) Handrolled Maduro
lines created from the best blends. So next time visiting the Grand Strand stop by, light one up, and just relax.
